Why Authenticity Matters in Business Strategy: The Future of Leadership

Redefining Strategy in a New Era of Business

Can I get a raise of hands for how many people are burnt out on hustle culture?

Yes, me too.

Gone are the days of selling for dollars. We’ve beaten the hustle narrative to a pulp—and what’s rising from the ashes is something more meaningful, sustainable, and honestly, more human.

As an entrepreneur, I’m tired of being sold to by people who don’t even believe in what they’re offering—just trying to hit a quota, or “close the deal.” I get it. Sales are part of business. But what if we started building businesses rooted in purpose rather than scarcity?

What if your next business move wasn’t about performance... but presence?

What if strategy looked more like authenticity?

Because here’s the truth: people are craving real. They’re done with the noise.

The polished, performative brands are losing traction. What we want now is resonance. Integrity. Authenticity.

Just look at what happened with the CEO of Astronomer.

He got caught on the kiss cam at a Coldplay concert… with the company’s Chief of HR. Not only was it a bold public display, but it also exposed a full-blown workplace affair. But here's the thing, the issue wasn’t the affair — it was the complete lack of alignment.

When you’re in a leadership role, especially one that’s shaping culture, vision, and people — your actions matter. How you show up, both publicly and privately, sends a message. And if that is how the head's of Astronomer acted in a public setting, imagine the dishonestly that is lurking beneath the surface.

This is why authenticity isn’t just a personal value — it’s a business strategy. Because when your inner world doesn’t match your outer brand, people notice. And trust? That gets broken fast, like really fast.

In fact, a 2023 Edelman Trust Barometer study found that 81% of consumers say trust is a deciding factor in their buying decisions. And a report by Salesforce revealed that 62% of customers say they’ll stop buying from brands they perceive as dishonest or inauthentic.

Translation? People don’t just want your offer—they want your integrity.

What Authenticity Really Means in Business

Let’s get this out of the way: authenticity isn’t about oversharing for attention, trauma-dumping in your content, or claiming “realness” while mimicking what everyone else is doing.

It’s about congruence.

It’s when your values match your voice. When the energy you hold behind the scenes is the same one you show your clients. When you sell something because it matters to you—not because you’re afraid you won't hit your numbers.

As Brené Brown puts it:

“Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.”

And in business? That practice becomes your edge.

Because when your audience feels your alignment, they trust you. And when they trust you, they buy from you, grow with you, refer you, and stay.

Three Ways to Start Leading from Truth

You don’t need to overhaul your brand or burn your funnels to the ground. You just need to come home to your truth.

Here are three simple, powerful ways to begin:

1. Share the Story Behind the Offer: Don’t just pitch the features. Tell us why you created this thing. What moment inspired it? What need did you see in your own life, or your clients’ lives, that you had to answer?

🪞 Try this: Next time you promote something, write a post about the “why” behind it—not just the “what.” Set your intention and just watch as your heart begins to write your story. Your customers will feel that resonance and inquire further.

2. Audit for Alignment: Before you hit publish, ask: “Is this true for me right now?”Are you posting because it’s trending or because it’s aligned? Are you speaking from soul or scarcity?

🪞 Try this: Look back at your last 3 posts or emails. Would you still stand behind them if only 3 people saw them? If the answer is yes, amazing- keep going. If the answer is no, call in your angels and ask for assistance in reframing your content to align with your authentic expression.

3. Let Your Intuition Be Your Strategy: Your body always knows. Your nervous system will tell you if something is off. The best business decisions don’t always come from spreadsheets—they come from inner knowing.

🪞 Try this: Before launching or pivoting, check in: Does this launch or offering feel expansive or tight In my body? Does it energize me, or drain me? Let your energy lead you to your answer.

Closing: Your Truth Is Your Strategy

Authenticity isn’t a trend—it’s the foundation of your strategy. It’s what creates resonance in your brand, trust in your leadership, and longevity in your business.

If you’re building a business that’s rooted in something real—a vision, a mission, a calling—then this is your sign to stop outsourcing your voice. Stop tweaking yourself into someone else’s mold. Lead from your truth, not from what others want you to be.
